And We’re Back…

Posted on May 8th, 2008 by Brad

RantsAndStuff is back online.  So… we had planned on doing this really fancy theme and really putting some work into the new site however neither of us have the time to do any of that so instead I whipped up a quick Ubuntu Linux server with an out-of-the-box WordPress (v2.5) installation with the theme that we’re going to use as our base for the future look of the site.  There’s nothing fancy here.  The idea is to just give us something to start blogging with and we’ll make it look all shiny and stuff as we get time.  Oh, and yes, I keep saying “we” and “us”.  Everyone, this is Jon, Jon, this is everyone…  Jon is a buddy of mine from back in our active duty Air Force days.  I was stationed with him in Germany and he’s a fellow tech enthusiast.  Oh, and for you new folks, I’m Brad.  Howdy.

And now I’ll give Jon the floor…er… post draft?

No, this isn’t about the unix command (whoami) that tells you who you’re logged in as, this is about me! I am (hopefully) one half of the author’s of rantsandstuff.com. I hope to bring some balance to the content that you will see on this site. Brad and I definitely do not agree on everything, and we’ll let you know when we don’t! Our goal is to keep this site interesting enough that you will want to visit it often, and we plan to keep the content fresh, fresher than my milk at least. I plan to write about everything from stupid computer tricks to some advanced networking theory. Brad is known for knowing some really off the wall shit, so I’m sure we’ll see some of that. It’s always interesting. I think that we have some tenative plans for the future for readers to be able to comment to our posts, so look forward to that… as well as for post #2

Hello. Looking forward to seeing fresh subjects. Maybe some can be programming?

Sure, I like programming. I primarily specialize in batch type processing though. I am a semi-professional programmer in the normal sense of the word, technically a programmer for 95% of what I do. What I mean is that in my profession I program devices, not applications.

I do plan to include some (not much) code if I find something to be especially useful for the masses. I would not expect to see much Java though as it makes the baby Jesus cry… along with AJAX. Anything else is fair game.

Very nice “AJAX makes the baby Jesus cry reference”. Kind of obscure and I’d guess that I’m one of 3 people reading this site that would get it. Fun none the less…
