Sony VAIO Z with auto switching dual video cards
Posted on January 19th, 2010 by Brad
Yo Apple, pay attention! Sony has a new VAIO Z series coming out that has dual video cards (one NVIDIA® GeForce® GT330M graphics chipset with 1GB GDDR3 VRAM and one Intel integrated HD chipset) with a physical switch that has an “auto” mode that allows the system to automatically switch video cards based on usage.
The Sony is proof that the technology is available and my hope is that future MacBook Pros will auto switch as well because my post about how to switch between graphics cards on a Macbook Pro should have never been needed to be written in the first place.
The new Sony’s will be available in March in Europe and hopefully will come stateside sooner than later. Check out the press release for more info!

I don’t want some big ugly switch on my sleek Macbook Pro!

I don’t either! My hope is that Apple will simply make it fully automatic and maybe keep the software switch for people that want to make sure it stays in one mode or the other.
